Usability testing involves us testing your product's interface with real users and reporting back on our findings. Our report will include a description of all the issues encountered by users, prioritised by severity. The report also includes recommendations on how to redesign the product to prevent users experiencing these issues.
Tests can range from performance measurement with large numbers of users
to allow statistical significance, to exploratory, qualitative tests
with as few as five users per segment of the target audience. Different types of test yield different types of results and we can advise you on the best number of users to test based on the kind of data you require.
With our suite of testing labs, we can test across different platforms such as the web, mobile, TV and games consoles. Testing can also focus on accessibility by using the same approach with a different group of participants.
Process
Our consultants will work with your team in order to identify the questions you have, and the data that you need. We then agree on a representative group of users to recruit and suitable tasks, and plan an agenda for the usability tests.
The test sessions usually consist of an expert facilitator sitting with the user in a one-on-one . Depending on the nature of the questions, they will take place in our labs or in the user's natural environment (work, home, classroom, etc.). We often have members of our clients' teams watching the sessions via video link in our viewing facility.
Deliverables
We have no fixed way of presenting our findings: we tailor our deliverables to whatever best serves your needs. However examples of common deliverables are:
- Presentation: the problems encountered in testing and potential solutions are presented to your any part of your company, from designers to board member level. We include compelling video clips of users experiencing problems to highlight our key findings.
- Comprehensive findings log: A comprehensive spreadsheet documenting all the issue enounctered in the test. This format allows tracked management of fixes and solutions.
- Workshop: Amberlight consultants can facilitate a collaborative solution-building sessions with your product builders, designers and producers.
- Wireframe solutions: Amberlight develop blueprints for your interface, demonstrating implemented solutions and taking the guesswork out of the next stage of design for your development team.
